We Care for Kids, too! - Texas MedClinic Urgent Care

Summer time means later bedtimes and more adventures for your kids, and it should! Little brains thrive on new experiences, but it’s important to also take precautions against unwanted injuries and illnesses. Since they are out of school, most kids will increase their physical activity and change their routine in many ways from sleep to nutrition, to the type of exercise they are getting.

In the midst of all of this, keep in mind that our medical team loves caring for kids! Each year we treat thousands of children between the ages of 1 and 17, allowing us to serve as an after hours clinic when you don’t need to visit the emergency room.

Texas MedClinic is here 365 days of the year, often times making it a more affordable alternative to your child’s pediatrician when their office is closed and allowing you to avoid costly ER costs for non-life threatening illnesses or injuries. Our clinics offer several services from broken bones to stitches, including back to school physicals and immunizations, but in the case of a life threatening emergency you must go to an emergency room that’s equipped and staffed for those type of situations.

Like we said, not all childhood injuries or illness can be treated by our providers. Below we’ve listed a few guidelines for when we would encourage you to visit the ER:

-If your child is less than 6 months old and has a fever of 100.4 or greater

-If your child has a broken bone that has pierced the skin or if there is a visible bump or  unevenness

-If your child has had a seizure or loss consciousness

-If your child has a large cut on the face, sedation may be need to repair the laceration

And, while it’s top of mind, we want to remind you about back to school immunizations. It’s important to make sure your child’s vaccinations are up to date before the first day of school, so schedule those visits early (in the dead of summer while the heat forces you indoors anyways). The sooner they get marked off your checklist, the sooner you can go back to enjoying summer!

Our goal is help others achieve good health. If there is anything we can do, please let us know. In the meantime, encourage your kids to enjoy summer. Allow them to get outdoors as much as possible, teach them to enjoy a new hobby like biking or swimming, make sure they are still getting plenty of rest, show them healthy options around the kitchen, provide them with the right resources to develop good habits and protect them against illness and diseases as much as possible (through vaccinations and good hygiene). And, stay cool, hydrated and protected from the sun! Summer is past the halfway point and sooner than later, we’ll all feel a cool breeze and breathe a sigh of relief.

Call us, or come in and see us, if there’s anything we can do to help make the world of parenting less frightening and more fun, we’d be happy to help. Our clinics are open seven days a week from 8a.m.-11p.m. and some of our locations are open 24 hours a day.
