Texas MedClinic Signs Contract with BlueCross BlueShield of Texas - Texas MedClinic Urgent Care

Texas MedClinic, the local medical practice that introduced urgent care to San Antonio 34 years ago and now operates 3 clinics in the Austin area, has signed an agreement with BlueCross BlueShield of Texas.

Effective Friday, July 1, 2016, Texas MedClinic will provide in-network access for urgent care medical services for HMO, PPO/POS, Par Plan and Blue Advantage HMO (a healthcare exchange program) beneficiaries.

Established in 1982, Texas MedClinic specializes in urgent care, occupational medicine, sports and travel medicine. Today there are 13 clinics in San Antonio, one in New Braunfels, two in Austin and one in Round Rock.

“We are glad to welcome back BlueCross BlueShield of Texas. Their members have been loyal patients of ours in the past, and we anticipate their return to our clinics. We believe Texas MedClinic is the perfect choice for urgent care treatment and with three Austin area clinics we’ve made getting care for injuries and illnesses even more convenient,” Dr. Bernard Swift, Jr., founder of Texas MedClinic said. “Texas MedClinic also is a one-stop shop for occupational medicine and work related injuries.”

BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, the only statewide, customer-owned health insurer in Texas, is the largest provider of health benefits in the state, working with nearly 80,000 physicians and healthcare practitioners, and 500 hospitals to serve 5 million members in all 254 counties. BlueCross BlueShield is a Division of Health Care Service Corporation (which operates BlueCross BlueShield plans in Texas, Illinois, Montana, Oklahoma and New Mexico), the country’s largest customer-owned health insurer and fourth largest health insurer overall. Health Care Service Corporation is a Mutual Legal Reserve Company and an Independent Licensee of the BlueCross BlueShield Association.

“We are pleased that Texas MedClinic will again be participating in our Blue AdvantageSM, HMO Blue® Texas, BlueChoice® PPO and Traditional/ParPlan networks starting on July 1, allowing our members to have more choices when accessing health care providers in the Central Texas region,” said Dave Cripe, Divisional, VP of Network Management.

BlueCross BlueShield of Texas offers a variety of patient education tools, including a smartphone app for finding the nearest urgent care clinic, including all Texas MedClinic locations, and a 24-hour nurse line to direct patients to the most appropriate venue for their particular problems, which helps to rein in potentially higher costs at a freestanding ER or hospital-based ER.

Dr. Swift adds that Texas MedClinic has plans to continue expanding in the San Antonio, New Braunfels and Austin areas to provide additional, convenient urgent care clinics for Central Texas residents and employers.

With the addition of BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, Texas MedClinic now has agreements with all major insurance providers.
