San Antonio, TX   Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve  (ESGR) bestowed the organization’s Patriotic Employer Award to Texas MedClinic’s Pro Sports Rehabilitation Director Larry Wood for supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.

Wood was nominated for the award by his employee, physical therapist SPC Chance Madera, who serves in the Texas Army National Guard. Madera was recently called to duty overseas.

In his nomination, Madera wrote; “Larry Wood exemplifies leadership and goes above and beyond to ensure that I fulfill my duty as a Texas Army National Guard Soldier and as a Physical Therapist working for Pro Sports Rehab.  Mr. Wood has many accolades including 30 years as a Soldier and as a Physical Therapist.  I am grateful that he is my supervisor.”

“As a retired soldier, I know how very important it is for your employer to support your duty to country and the missions it entails,” said Wood. “The last thing a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine needs to worry about when duty calls are their jobs at home. They need to know that their boss and company will be there for them when their mission is complete.”

Wood served in the U.S. Army, holding physical therapy positions at several US Army hospitals within the U.S. and abroad. He advanced to the Office of the Surgeon General, then became assistant physical therapy chief at Brooke Army Medical Center, now known as San Antonio Military Medical Center. Retiring from the U.S. Army in 1993, he became the physical therapy director for Texas MedClinic’s Pro Sports Rehabilitation.

“I thank EGSR and SPC Madera. It’s a huge honor to receive this award. It demonstrates that my employees know they can trust me, rely on me. They are confident in their service to their country and to their service to Texas MedClinic. And, confidence is critical when called on a mission,” said Wood.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (EGSR) presented Texas MedClinic Pro Sports Rehab Director Larry Wood with the Patriot Award.

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. For more than 45 years, EGSR has fostered a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. These citizen warriors could not defend and protect us at home and abroad without the continued promise of meaningful civilian employment for themselves and their families.

Texas MedClinic employs four National Guardsmen, three of which are currently deployed.

“Some of the finest physicians, nurses and medical providers are military trained, including Larry Wood and Chance Madera,” said Texas MedClinic Chief Operating Officer and practicing physician Dr. David Gude. “We honor and are extremely proud of all of U.S. military personnel who work and have worked at Texas MedClinic over the last 35 years. We couldn’t do what we do without them. Supporting them when they are called to duty remains a steadfast priority for our company.”
