Give Back This Month, It’ll Put You in the Spirit - Texas MedClinic Urgent Care

December is in full swing and you’re likely feeling the burden! We know there are endless to-do lists but in the midst of the chaos, it might put you in the spirit to do something good for someone else. There are many organizations that rely on donors to make the holidays bright, so lend a hand or wrap a gift and feel good about how you end 2016. But, don’t delay, many organizations have mid-month cut offs so they can prepare for delivery in time for Christmas.

Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program helps disadvantaged families in Travis and Williamson Counties. You can choose to Adopt an Angel and purchase gifts for a specific child or donate to help them purchase their own gifts for the holidays.

Operation Blue Santa provides food and toys for about 5,000 families in need. You can adopt a family and provide them with a meal and gifts for the children.

CASA of Travis County Holiday Toy Drive which provides more than 1,000 children spending the holidays in foster care with Christmas gifts.

Saint Louise House’s Home for the Holidays is looking for donations for their families in need. You can sponsor a family or provide gift cards to help support moms who want to shop for their own families. Saint Louise House provides housing and essential services to mothers and children experiencing homelessness in Central Texas.

Southwest Key Christmas Angel Program provides low-income youth and families in Central Texas with gifts at Christmas. You can sponsor a child or an entire family and purchase from their wish list or make a donation.

If giving is more doable than doing, make sure you know the organization you’re supporting. Not to be a downer, but sadly there are scams out there. Thankfully it’s easy to avoid giving to fake nonprofits, just do a little online research.

And, finally while you’re out there doing something good for someone else don’t forget to take care of yourself. It’s the best present you could give your strained immune system this time of year with the weather changes and lack of sleep. Find time to clear your head. Laugh with friends. Eat healthy food. Drink plenty of water. And, take a deep breath.

Christmas is coming and afterwards we’ll celebrate a new year. Make the most of this December, we’re confident doing something for others will produce a lasting effect. If YOU need us, we’ll be here. But for now, go and enjoy the holidays.
