Orientation Information: If selected for an externship with Texas MedClinic, you must be available to attend Extern Orientation. For all Texas MedClinic facilities, including Austin, there will be an Extern Orientation September 10th.
Our Orientations are NOT on a walk-in basis. You must be selected to attend Orientation by going through an interview and successfully completing the selection process. Orientations are usually held Fridays and take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Shift Information: After Orientation and five days of back office training (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), the shift hours onsite are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Texas MedClinic also offers evening shift from 3:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. However evening shifters must be available during the initial six days from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for Orientation and training!
General Summary: Texas MedClinic provides externship opportunities for students enrolled in a certified Medical Assistant program. The MA externship is unpaid, but gives students an excellent hands-on experience in the medical field. Clinic locations are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Hours: Texas MedClinic externs must attend a full day of Orientation (held on Fridays) and one week (M-F) of Back Office Training. This training is mandatory and students must be available to attend Orientation and Back Office training from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for six (6) days. Training takes place at our Broadway clinic located at Broadway & Loop 410.
After successful completion of training, typical clinic extern hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 3:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Special scheduling needs are considered for students who currently work full-time elsewhere.
Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.
